The Lansingburgh Project — A study of important historic individuals and the images that relate to them.

Bryon Moak is an American History teacher at Lansingburgh High School who has expanded his traditional classroom studies to include first hand visits to the many historical landmarks of Lansingburgh and Troy. To further understand important individuals they did written research and either made or found photographic images relating to the rich past unique to this area. Students studied individuals from an American President, authors, industrialists, educators, soldiers,an union leader, and even Uncle Sam.

Photographic images were guided by and often taken by visiting artist Susan Myers in an attempt to show how images can enhance the telling of the stories, and to give a greater appreciation of the landmarks and culture of the area. Students were also given options in their photographic approaches — black and white , blue prints, color prints, and Polaroid processes.

Presented here are the efforts of field trips, class lectures, darkroom work and research. Hopefully students and viewing public will leave having a greater respect for the legends from our community and find their own inspiration,

This project has been funded by Lansingburgh High School and through a grant from the General Electric Company’s Creative Connection.
